Education

Throughout high school, I knew that I wanted to go to school for marketing. At the time, I had future visions of working in the sports industry, particularly for the Milwaukee Brewers. I am a huge baseball fan and I was always fascinated by the strategic vision and creative abilities that went into sports marketing. This led to my decision to go to UW Milwaukee my freshman year of college. Within the first month, I had received a job offer to work as a Group Event Facilitator for the Milwaukee Bucks, which I saw as my first step into the industry. I loved the job, especially the perk of meeting NBA players every time I had a shift. I loved the school. I was learning a lot and was slowly getting acclimated to the city. The problem is that I put too much on my plate. Most days, I was going to class until 4 PM, taking the bus an hour and a half to get to the stadium, working until 9 or 10 PM, and then trying to finish any remaining homework and get a relatively good amount of sleep. I was spreading myself too thin and missing my family, which led me to transfer to UW Oshkosh and coming closer to home.

Transferring was one of the best decisions of my life. Like I said above, I have no gripe with UWM. It was a great experience and a great school. I would not trade it for anything. But UW Oshkosh is where I found a lot of my passions that have shaped who I am today. Growing up in a small town, I did not really think much about the outside world. I traveled quite a bit with my family on summer road trips, but those were always within the United States. One of my first weeks at UWO, I walked outside of my Art History class and saw a flyer for Model United Nations. Looking to meet new friends and being intrigued by the "Travel to St. Louis and New York City" wording on the flyer, I went to a meeting. In the "Global Scholar" section of this portfolio, I will go more into depth on this experience, but it largely changed my worldview. I no longer was interested in the sports industry (although I am still a diehard fan of the Brewers, Bucks, and Packers). I decided after my exposure to Model UN that while I still loved business, I wanted to create more of an international business focus to my major. This led to my decision to pursue a Global Scholar certificate and to add the civic engagement minor. I believe this has made me a more well-rounded individual and has opened my eyes to a ton of new information. I have always put an emphasis on my education and I am proud to currently hold a cumulative 3.95 GPA.

Below, you will find some of my favorite projects that I have completed throughout the duration of my college experience!

Politics of Development -
Grant Proposal

The purpose of this project was to create a grant proposal to solve a need in a developing country. This was a group project that once completed, the class voted on which project deserved funding. While we did not get picked for funding, I was extremely proud of our effort on this project. We decided to focus our project on installing subsurface drip irrigation systems in Botswana. Botswana is a landlocked country, which means it has no coast access to water. This makes agriculture difficult. On top of that, climate change has caused a lot of added desertification in the area. Subsurface drip irrigation systems are long-lasting and have minimal agricultural water waste.

Marketing Strategy - Company Recommendation

The purpose of this project was to create a comprehensive marketing recommendation for a company of our choice. This project was done in three main parts throughout the semester. Since I have a current internship with Oshkosh Corporation, I decided to choose them as my company of focus for this recommendation. This decision provided a challenge but was rewarding. Since Oshkosh Corporation has a lot of different segments, it was hard to make recommendations for each. The needs of their Fire and Emergency segment were drastically different from the needs of their Defense segment. This challenge gave me a more comprehensive view of the company and has helped me in my current day-to-day responsibilities.

Educational Leadership -
Issues Paper

The purpose of this project was to write a five-part report based on a current educational issue. Each part revolved around the five methodologies of the course: historical analysis, critical media literacy, ethical reasoning, legal foundations, and civic engagement. I decided to write my report on the decline of civic knowledge in America, particularly amongst Millennials and Generation Z. This report meant a lot to me, as it is a pertinent problem that I see in our current generation. This led directly to my decision to add a civic engagement minor.
